Looking for a great way to get some garden inspiration or just need a fun summer event to look forward to? You’ve come to the right place! I’ve gathered an initial list of garden tours taking place all over Southeastern Michigan in 2016. These garden tours can be a feast for the eyes. Whether you just want to see beautiful flowers, trees, and shrubs, or are looking for ideas for your own outdoor space, get ready to get outside and have fun! Maybe I’ll even see you there!
Spring Wildflower Walk on Belle Isle: A two-hour walk starting at the Racquet Ball Courts on Vista Way on Sunday May 1st from 10am until noon. The event is limited to 30 participants and reservations are required. Parts of the trail are difficult to navigate, so be aware if you have mobility issues. Don’t forget, you need a Michigan State Park Pass for entrance on Belle Isle. Cost: $5 cash or check, see Detroit Garden Center’s website for more information.
Elmwood Cemetery Tree & History Tour: Sunday, May 15th from 1pm-3pm, join the Detroit Garden Center for a guided tour of more than 80 tree species. Cost: $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Check out their website for more information.
Corktown Historical Home and Garden Tour: Details are yet to be released but this year’s event will be held on Sunday, June 5th.
Historic Indian Village Home & Garden Tour: Saturday, June 11th (10am-5pm) and Sunday, June 12th (12:30pm-5:30pm). The theme of this year’s tour is “Celebration of our Restored Historic Lighting.” Tickets just recently became available here. BONUS: Buying your ticket early means that no ticket processing or credit card fees will be applied to your purchase. Snag your tickets today! 26th Annual Ann Arbor Garden Walk: Saturday, June 11th from 10am-4pm. Tickets go on sale in May. Last year’s event included seven private gardens. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit local organizations. More details will be posted here and tap on the Garden Walk tab.
Rochester’s Garden Walk: Take a tour of unique and private gardens on Thursday, June 16th, from 10am-6pm. Advance tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the Rochester Hills Museum Dairy Barn (Monday thru Saturday, 1pm-4pm in advance or on the day of the tour).
Grosse Pointe Garden Center’s 25th Annual Garden Tour: Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th from 10am-4pm. Take a tour of 9 private gardens. Tickets are available at Grosse Pointe retailers and the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Your best bet is to call the Grosse Pointe Garden Center at 313-881-7511 x206. Tickets are $15 pre-tour and $20 on tour days.
Troy’s 42nd Annual Garden Walk “Poetic Gardens”: Wednesday, July 13th from 9:30am-3pm and 5pm-8:30pm, featuring 8 private gardens in 6 venues. There will also be a plant sale and artists painting in the gardens. Advance tickets go on sale starting June 1st for $10 and tickets will include maps to all venues.
